Resilience, Empowerment, Accountability, Discipline, & Integrity, are the five pillars of the cornerstone initiative of A Fresh Foundation, Leadership READI is a comprehensive program that embodies our commitment to empowering at-promise youth and breaking the cycle of generational incarceration. This holistic approach nurtures participants through servant leadership, character building, and community service, providing a solid foundation for their future.

Leadership READI is designed for young people aged 8-17 with a parent currently incarcerated or on parole who need additional support to succeed. We also support young adults 18-24 who were recently released or on probation and who are recent or expecting parents; the program offers targeted support to help them navigate this critical stage of life.

Grounded in the philosophy of Ubuntu, which teaches "I am because we are," Leadership READI not only focuses on academic success and personal growth but also instills a sense of responsibility and civic duty. Our program fosters improved grades, higher graduation rates, and enhanced self-confidence among participants. Additionally, through our counseling and mental health services, we provide the essential support needed to overcome challenges and build resilience.

Research shows that children with incarcerated parents are at a higher risk of continuing the cycle of incarceration. Understanding this, A Fresh Foundation’s Leadership READI Academy takes a proactive approach to reduce recidivism and disrupt the pattern of generational incarceration. We create a nurturing environment where youth can develop into conscientious, empowered adults by engaging families, schools, and community partners, including religious groups and houses of worship. Through this program, we are dedicated to paving the way for a brighter future for all, one that is grounded in leadership, resilience, empowerment, accountability, discipline, and integrity.
